The Graduate Program in Mechanical Engineering - Professional Master had its operation authorized by CAPES in the 1st half of 2011.
The main objective of this Master program is "the training of human resources in advanced professional practices and processes, by incorporating the scientific method and foundations, focusing on innovation and technological improvements to specific problems."
The program focuses on Design and Manufacturing, and research is structured along three lines:
The Professional Master Degree Program is conceived as a graduate stricto sensu course, with the objective of stimulating the formation of master degree graduates, who are able to develop technical-scientific activities and work on essentially technical subjects. The Professional Master Degree Program confers the degree of Master in Engineering, granting the same rights as the Academic Master Degree Program.
The main research activities are in Design and Manufacturing. This area approaches understanding and use of methods and tools to support the design process related to applied mechanics, and to computational and experimental methods of mechanics in the analysis of components, systems, mechanical manufacturing processes and industrial plants. It aims at understanding the variables that control the performance and response of mechanical systems, thereby providing a technological basis for improvements.
Research in the Master Program is structured along three research lines:
This master program accepts students from most engineering disciplines and related fields in order to support its diverse range of engineering activities.
The Mechanical Engineering Professional Master will have developed skills and abilities to meet the demands of applied research fields, involving the identification of performance requirements and/or problems associated with the design and manufacture of components as well as mechanical and energy systems, including modeling thereof, and will be able to propose solutions based on scientific and technological principles.
The student must obtain 24 credits after his initial enrollment, with 12 credits from required subjects and 12 credits from elective subjects. In addition, the student must pass a proficiency exam in the English language and present a dissertation (6 credits). The time for completion of the course (subjects + final thesis) will be 24 months.
The admission of 20 students per year for the Master Program will be through a selection process regulated by a specific notice issued by the Administration of this Institution.
